The crisis that has been rocking the Pan- Yoruba socio- political organization known as Afenifere has worsened as a new group emerged on Sunday.
It was reported that the group’ s leaders held a meeting with the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday in Lagos State.
The faction has declared its support for the former governor of Kano State, arguing that based on his track record, Kwankwaso has a better capacity to lead the nation.
It is important to remember that the Acting Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, had previously declared support for the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, which led to divisions within the Afenifere party.
However, some of Afenifere’ s stakeholders have insisted that Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is their choice of candidate to support for the election in 2023.
Meanwhile, Comrade Ajibade Adeyeye, Coordinator of the New Afenifere, announced yesterday that his organization has decided to identify another candidate, Rabiu Kwankaso the flag bearer of the NNPP.
He emphasized the fact that the members of his group are old enough to make their own decision.
He said, ” The new Afenifere hereby states that we are concerned with the socio- political umbrella known as new Afenifere and I dare say we have decided to take our future into our hands to prepare for the upcoming 2023 election.
