According to Channels, early on Thursday, Russian airstrikes pounded the city of Zaporizhzhia in central Ukraine, killing people as they tore through high- rise structures. A toddler was also hurt in the attacks, the region’ s governor reported.
The city under Ukrainian control is situated in the Zaporizhzhia region, which is also the location of the heavily shelled nuclear plant that is under Russian occupation.
Despite not having complete authority over the area, Moscow last week claimed to have annexed it.
In order to check for people trapped beneath the debris, rescue personnel wearing protective helmets were seen by AFP journalists on the scene clearing rubble with their hands.
