Ahead 10th NASS, NILDS rolls out more legislative drafters

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) has rolled out additional thoroughly trained legislative drafters ahead of the 10th National Assembly in 2023.

Speaking during certification of the new legislative drafters at the NILDS head office in Abuja Friday, the director-general, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, said a total of 50 drafters who are all lawyers had been trained and certificated within the last six months.

He said the main purpose of rolling out fresh legislative drafters for the national and state assemblies was to equip them with highly competent and professionally trained legislative drafters.

“As an Institute set up for legislative research and carrying out capacity building workshops and training for both legislators and parliamentary staff, legislative drafting is being focused upon through this internship training which has been broken into three batches. 40 interns graduated in the first batch in April with additional 10 now totalling 50.

“In enriching legislative drafting at both the National and States Houses of Assembly, all the people selected for the internship training are graduates already equipped with elevated languages in parliamentary context,” he said.
