Yesterday, Abuja was rocked by massive demonstrations after it was discovered that the Department of State Service (DSS) had allegedly filed a suit in which it accused the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, of financing terrorism as well as other crimes that it described as economic crimes of national security dimension.
The suit was discovered after massive protests rocked Abuja.
The DSS did not confirm or refute accusations that it had filed charges against the CBN governor that bordered on terrorist funding; nevertheless, it did not comment on the claims.
The organizations, which are comprised of attorneys and rights movements, have spoken out against the clandestine operation to label the governor of the CBN as a terrorist and then to arraign him in court under Section 66 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.
This occurred on the same day that a Federal High Court that was sitting in Awka, Anambra State, issued an order that the CBN be served in a lawsuit that was brought against it by the Incorporated Trustees of the African Initiative Against Abuse of Public Trust.
The coalition said that Emefiele was not a terrorist, and they pointed accusing fingers at the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Bichi, as the person who was the brains behind it.
