Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and the chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has stated that Nigeria has moved beyond the era of do- or- die politics.
During a citizens’ election dialogue hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Yiaga Africa, and Channels Television, Oshiomhole made the claim.
Politics in Nigeria, he said, was no more a ” life and death” subject as the voting process had changed.
Senator Dino Melaye stated that President Muhammadu Buhari nominated APC members to serve as resident election commissioners, prompting Oshiomhole to make the same claim.
According to Oshiomhole, unlike in the past, Buhari is dedicated to a fair electoral process and has frequently reaffirmed his resolve to do so.
He stated: ” I don’ t want to defend who I empathize with, but the Senate should carry out its duties, and I’ m delighted it includes knowledgeable, engaged, and active members of the APC and PDP. They study those and are aware of who’ s who. Their focus is on the nominees. ”
But kudos to President Buhari for being able to assure the world that he and his party are not in it for the long haul because of this election. I’ m pleased with it. Having one in history may not make you feel proud of yourself.
