Tinubu Had Promised Some Northerners a Muslim-Muslim Ticket Before Picking Shettima -Prof. Sheni
A chieftain of the APC, Prof. Doknan Sheni, has revealed some details regarding what transpired when the now-presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu, started campaigning. Prof. Sheni addressed the recent developments within his party during his interview on Arise News.
Addressing the topic, Pro. Sheni said, “We promised in the APC constitution that we would not discriminate, and we promised fairness and justice.” We have been running a system in this country where a ticket consists of two people of different religious faiths. It has been an agreed way of doing things, which we have come to accept. When our party leader, Bola Tinubu, started his campaign, he met with certain people from the North, and he promised them that he would field a Muslim-Muslim ticket right from the beginning.
He continued, “We tried to interract through our friends and colleagues and friends who are close to him that doing so would alienate an important section of the country.” Religious faith is important. Secondly, we told him that doing so would also bring religion to the forefront of politics. It has been under, but an insistence on a Muslim-Muslim ticket would make religion a part of the ballot. That is not healthy for our nation. However, it appears he had already made up his mind.
